CERTIFICATE
IN TECHNICAL WRITING

CERTIFICATE
IN TECHNICAL WRITING

What are the benefits of the certificate program?

  • Prepares you  for careers in the technical writing field or helps you sharpen and advance your present workplace skills.

  • You will learn from technical writing faculty with university teaching and industry experience.

  • Prepares you for full time or contract work with industry leaders in documentation writing and other key technical areas.

  • Perfect for those interested in starting a new consulting and technical writing business.

  • Earned Certificate from prestigious and accredited state universities with your name, Title of the Certificate and embossed logo of the university.

  • Anytime-Anywhere Learning Model. You do not have to meet at a specific time, but will still have contact with your instructors.

  • College Accredited Certificate that is recognized by industry.

    When are the courses offered?

Our techwriter workshops can be taken at a fixed start and end date or through open enrollment. Literally, you can begin as soon as you register.

How often does the instructor email the students, i.e., how many assignments?

Classes are designed to last 5 - 6 weeks and have several minor and several "major" writing assignments. You are not tested.

    Do the instructors provide feedback?

Instructors provide extensive feedback on each assignment.  Some assignments are posted on web pages, others are delivered through Blackboard or e-learning platforms.

What credits do you receive by completing this course?

These are CEU credits (Continuing Education Credit). They do not transfer to a "for-credit" institution. However, you can expect to take these workshops under stringent guidelines to gain a high quality educational experience.

Is any software to be installed, or is contact only through email?

There is no software to be installed. You do need to be able to send files in MSWord or WordPerfect or as an RTF file. Contact can be through email, instant message, or chat room.

Do I need to submit a transcript to take the workshop?

    No, you do not.

How do I register and what is the procedure?

Just click on the COURSES  link on this page.

Once you register and make payment your order will be processed. E-mail notification will be made with your instructor and also with you.

Having no experience in technical writing, the courses seem, in themselves, useful but I'm curious about the advantages of the certificate program.

It is always good to show that you have earned something when it comes to education. The certification and certificate you are awarded from an accredited university will serve to validate your course of study.

When you say self-paced, do you mean that there are no deadlines on assignments or that you can start assignments when you wish?

You must complete your work within the 5-6 weeks allotted. Your assignments can be handled on a rather open ended deadline, week-by-week. Just check with your instructor.

If one were to complete each certificate course say within 6 weeks, what might the average weekly workload be? 10 hours?

That is about right, but given individual learning behaviors the workload can vary.

I am interested in taking the Certificate in Technical Writing. Must I sign up for all three courses at the same time?

No, you can take them one at a time. We do however, discount the three workshops 10% if you order all three at one time. For group and corporate discounts please contact us.

What is the difference in completion time between enrolling in a Fixed Start date and Open Enroll Technical Certificate?

You are required in the Fixed Start date to complete your course of study within the prescribed time period (generally between 15-20 weeks). Although many students complete the Open Enroll Certificate within  three-four  months we  will allow you to take up to six months to complete  without incurring extra charges. We will grant additional time upon written request however a charge of $75.00 will be assessed beyond that time period. If you drop out of the program and seek re-entry after 1 year you will need to request a restart and pay a fee of $125.00.

Are there text books to buy for The Certificate in Technical Writing?

You will purchase two books. The cost of the books is under $100.00 for the entire Certificate.

    What about refunds?

We are a customer service driven company providing a high level of online learning. We have posted our refund policy in order to help the consumer make informed choices prior to purchase.

In order to receive consideration for a refund you must call 706-216-3406 to request a drop from your class 3 days  from the date of your purchase. In advance, make sure that you have carefully reviewed the course description and outline and that you have scheduled the appropriate time to take the course(s) you are enrolling in.

Technology-related issues such as bad emails and server problems that delay a course from starting or interrupting a course already in progress do not qualify for a refund request. A change of plans would not qualify for a refund request.

Your inability to download software or install it or run it on your computer does not qualify for a request (however, we will try our best to help put you in contact with technical support personal to aid in any issues of this type).

We may, under certain circumstances provide alternative start dates and or credits for other courses we offer.

"All I can say is that JER's course material has already helped me to sharpen my writing skills at work and at home. I recently was asked to write a proposal for a new recording system, and I was able to assist my boss in making a decision based on a document created after I took the Intermediate Technical Writing Class. In addition, I just completed an article for a national publication about 911 dispatching that was based on an outline suggested by my Technical Writing advisor. JER has a strong supporter if you need one."
